Wedding Photography - 5 Tips for for Amateur Wedding Photographers

Use Two Cameras

Beg, Borrow, rent or steal an extra camera for the day - Set it up with a different objective. I try to shoot a wide angle lens (ideal for kicks and in tight spaces (particularly before the ceremony at the preparation stage of the day) and longer-Lens (it may be convenient to have some something as large as 200mm if you can lay your hands on one - I use a 70-200mm).

Scout The Location
Visit the sites of different places that you'll be shooting before the big day. Although I am sure that most pros do not - I find it really useful to know where we're going to have an idea of some posts for pictures and how light can come into play on one or two weddings I even visited the sites with the couple and took a few test shots (these made nice 'engagement photos).

Set Expectations with The Couple

Show them your work / style. Discover what they are willing to make, how many shots they want, what key things they want to be recorded, how the shots will be used (print, etc.). If you put the pricing of the event, make sure you have the price agreement in place before.

Shoot The Small Details
Photography rings, the backs of dresses, shoes, flowers, forks, menus, etc - these help give the album end with an extra dimension. Browse a bridal magazine in a new stand for a little inspiration.

Consider Your Background
One of the challenges of marriage is that there often are people going everywhere - including the history of your shots. In particular the scope of formal plans for the area where they will be taken to advance research backgrounds well. Ideally, you'll miss the refined areas and places in the shade in a sunny spot where there is unlikely to be a wandering great aunt wander into the back of the photo. Read more about the background just as adequate.
